Day 27, Tuesday, July 14, 2026

We still haven’t heard about the revised adjustment, but the insurance company has about 7 (business) days to respond.

In the meantime, a forester is coming over tomorrow to assess whether or not he wants to log any of our dying trees.  It would be nice for him to go through them and get the ones that are dying, as when they die they become extremely large hazards.

Day 28, Wednesday, July 15, 2026

The logger came over today and we identified 5 trees that he wants to harvest from the back woods behind our pole building.  These are large, harvestable trees, so it’s a win-win because he’ll pay us for them and we will be rid of them, as they are broken and provide no canopy.  He’ll be back next week to harvest them.

Day 31, Saturday, July 18, 2026

Other than the logger coming over this week to scope things out, nothing else has happened in terms of repairs.  We’re still waiting for the response from the insurance company.  They also claim to have mailed our initial checks last week (“please allow 7 days for them to arrive”), but we haven’t seen them yet.  However, the amount they are sending is well below our public adjustor’s thorough estimates, so we’ll probably be fighting for additional money.  At least we’ll have enough to start some repairs.

Day 36, Thursday, July 26, 2026

We received the initial payout today.  I had to send it to our mortgage company for endorsement.  They will put it into an escrow account, issue us part of the money, and then require an inspection when repairs are at 25% or greater before releasing the remainder of the money.  The timeline on this is not quick:  3 days for the check to get to them, they allow 7 days for it to get deposited, then 10 days for it to clear.  Then they issue the first check to us (allow 7 days for it to process and another 7 days for it to show up).  So we can expect our first money in about a month.

Day 38, Saturday, July 25, 2026

I’m very disappointed that absolutely no progress has been made this week, other than receiving the initial check.  The insurance company has still not responded to our appeal of the adjustment, in spite of the deadlines they are missing (by law).

I also didn’t see the lumber man appear to harvest the lumber, even though he promised he would do so this past week.  We’ll hope that he shows up this coming week.
